Zinn in the Valley of Fire, 2008

Utah Gold, October 10-14, 2010

The American West is the setting for many of history’s most famous photographs. Wide open spaces and enormous skies, combined with weird rocks and a beautiful color palette, make for a wonderful setting for fine art nude photography. On this trip, we will visit the spectacular landscape of Southern Utah during the dry, relatively cool autumn season.

Who:

One of the best models I have had the pleasure of working with is Rhus. Her feminine physique works well in the natural environment, and she is not timid about climbing around on rocks or tangling with the occasional cactus. Rhus always “gets it” when you explain a concept, and breathes her own creative energies into your shots, making for a remarkable collaboration.

Trishii will be traveling to us from her home in Columbus, Ohio. I had a wonderful session with Trish in our eastern woodlands, and I’m excited about working with her in the starker, more emotional environment of the west. Trishii’s form is very feminine, and her poses are classical and graceful. She’ll make a tremendous subject for our traveling shoot!

What:

We will work on the evening of the 10th, morning and evening of the 11th, 12th and 13th, and once again on the morning of the 14th as we return to Vegas. The work schedule is relaxed, and most of the mid-day will be available for “down time”. Distances in Nevada and Utah are large, however, and part of that time will be spent traveling between locations.

I will serve as a mentor, an assistant and a lookout for you, so that you can focus on your creations. I’ll also bring a full set of location lighting gear, including large reflectors and scrims, battery powered strobes, and other tools to ensure quality exposures. Although I rarely shoot at my workshops, on expedition I will be shooting right along side of you - these locations and these models are too amazing for me to pass up!

Where:

Utah’s “Color Country” is home to many interesting vistas. Slot canyons, lava flows, gigantic rock formations and more await us in a model/photographer-friendly environment.

I’ve scouted the area and will present the group with several options for our locations. Weather and other conditions will also play a role in our decisions.

This is the first time I have led a traveling expedition. I’ve scouted the Nevada/Utah area twice and I think it offers unlimited potential for our creative energies. We will fly in to Las Vegas, and will spend most of our time around the area of St. George, Utah. Working our way through the Valley of Fire and into the parks of SW Utah, and shooting only at dawn and dusk, we’ll get 7 unique shoots in incredible environments.

When:

We will pick you up in Las Vegas around noon on October 10, and will return you on the afternoon of October 14.

Why:

A new lens might expand your capabilities a bit. The latest body will be obsolete in two years. But monetarily, the wisest investment you can make in art photography is to literally expand your horizons.

The western landscape is so engaging for photography, but working in a strange location can cost you a lot of time. I have already scouted the locations and arranged for two world-class professional models for the trip, so that your creative force can be free to concentrate on lighting and composition.

How Much:

The cost of the trip is $1600. This does not include airfare to or from Las Vegas or your meals, but it does include hotel accommodations, transportation throughout the region, my assistance and our model’s valuable time. Rhus and Trishii will be modeling for many hours during this expedition, and this total cost is lower than their usual modeling fees alone.

You will have your own hotel room. Restaurants will be agreed upon by the group, keeping one another’s dietary requirements in mind.

This trip has had much interest, and is a definite “go”! You can reserve your space with a non-refundable $400 deposit. The remaining $1200 will be due by September 15.
