Rhus Brutalis, 2010Nudes in the Raw
Many digital photographers have not yet begun to use their camera’s RAW capabilities. Although shooting in JPEG format allows for quick turn-around and smaller image size, it also allows the camera manufacturer to make image processing decisions, taking control away from the artist.
Using your DSLR’s RAW shooting capability means that you have control over decisions like color, contrast, sharpness and tonal rendition. It means that you maintain the highest quality image that your camera can generate, and saves critical processing decisions until later in the creative process, where you can make your photographs into masterpieces on your own terms. Your photograph is no longer the creation of a frustrated, cubicle-bound engineer.
Please join me at the new Sly Horse Studios, with two of my favorite models, for an exploration of raw processing - an essential digital photography technique.
Who:
Coming to us from North Carolina is Savannah. Savannah has years of experience in various genres of modeling, and is very comfortable in the fine art environment. Originally from the DC area, Savannah returns (too infrequently) to the area for assignments, and her bright, friendly personality makes her a true pleasure to create with.
Rhus returns for another visit to a Billy Monday workshop! I’m proud to count Rhus as both a muse and a friend. It’s always exciting to include her in an event. Her classical looks and posing style are a real asset in the studio, and artists use those features to create stunning works of art. A DC area model, Rhus is also available to help with your personal projects, and I give her my highest recommendation.
What:
In addition to working in two studios, we also will have a separate area set up for discussion of digital photography and raw processing techniques. I will conduct demonstrations of that latest raw processor from Adobe in both Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3. We’ll also take time to explore Lightroom’s keywording and organizing capabilities, which are a real asset to art photographers.
At my workshops we work on a rotation schedule, with photographers moving between models and sets. We’ll add the demonstration center into the rotation, so when you need a break from shooting you can work on skills to make your processed images come alive!
Where:
Sly Horse Studios have recently moved to a new, much larger and useful space near the Twinbrook Metro in Rockville. We’ll take advantage of the new higher ceilings, and larger rooms in this full studio shoot with our wonderful models.
When:
Sunday, September 12, 2010
Why:
While glamor photography workshops abound, there are few group opportunities to work with figure models, and even fewer which take a serious approach to learning. Our event will focus on developing both skills and relationships which will last a lifetime. Emphasizing a fine art approach to nude photography, I hope to encourage both exceptional image making and also networking to build our community of artists and models in the region.
How Much:
$199 includes a signed release from each model and full use of the studio’s equipment. As of July 28, there are 6 spaces remaining, reserve yours now!
Please feel free to email with any questions. I look forward to seeing you there!
