The Chief Warden's Obsession, 2010The Naked Truth
Desperation. Despair. Loneliness. You’re likely to feel strong emotions as you wait, shackled in a dark dungeon, for the welcome relief of the hangman’s noose. And each time the iron bars slam shut behind you, you feel the jarring clang of The Naked Truth.
Join me and a quartet of expressive nude models at an exciting new workshop. The focus will be lighting on location. We have been given full access to an early 19th century prison which includes dungeons, a three-story cell block and working execution apparatus. We will also have the use of the prison grounds with their beautiful Japanese garden.
This is an exceptional opportunity to make some terrifically expressive, emotional images.
Who:
South of the Border, 2010It’s been a year since Evaine (MM# 1176126) appeared at a Billy Monday workshop, and that’s too long. Evaine’s long, beautiful physique and talent for an expressive pose have brought compliments from artists nationwide, and she is sure to do amazing work in the emotional settings we will have at this event.
Coming to us from Chattanooga is Paige Erin Turner (MM# 1190524). I had the opportunity to work with Paige last summer and found her to be beautiful and talented. Her graceful, laid-back style will fit nicely into our scenes.
Beth Caldwell (MM# 546249) is well known in the mid-Atlantic region. Beth always brings deep emotion to her work, and is extremely easy to work with. Beth has so much experience as a nude model that I’m surprised this is her first trip to jail!
I’m excited that Keira Grant (MM# 799498) will be joining us as she travels the East Coast from her home in Houston, TX. Keira visited the region last summer and made some instant-classic images with local photographers. Her participation in our shoot at the prison should yield similar results!
What:
This workshop is an opportunity to enjoy the use of a pair of wonderful locations with some exceptional models. The focus of the event will be on location lighting and there are many challenges to overcome in these settings. We will have various types of equipment available including scrims and reflectors, battery powered strobes, and continuous lights. Enrollment is limited to 12 photographers, ensuring that everyone has adequate time to bring out their own unique vision.
Day One:
The first day will be conducted in a restoration warehouse near the prison. The warehouse has copious space, brick interiors and wonderful window light. This is an opportunity to use those long lenses in a controlled indoor setting. We will have room to produce multiple sets, and each photographer will have lots of time to practice working with our light modifiers and to gain comfort with the models before we head to jail.
The warehouse is available to photographers who wish to use it for private shoots, and booking information will be available to interested artists.
Day Two:
Our second day will be spent within the prison walls. Our prison location has a number of fascinating settings, and photographers will be free to choose their settings and shots. The prison features:
- Creepy dungeons with shackles in the floors
- Several open cells in a three-story high cell block, with bars and working doors
- An exercise yard with towering stone walls
- A formal Japanese garden
- Working execution equipment - so lethal that our agreement prohibits posing models on it
Each model will be accompanied by an experienced assistant, and lighting equipment will be available to meet any situation.
Warning: Not surprisingly, the entire facility is reputed to be haunted. Some people have difficulty entering some rooms, or report feeling uncomfortable at specific locations within the prison. Electrical anomalies abound, and I have experienced those myself, so bring plenty of charged batteries in case of weirdness.
Where:
This unique location for this workshop is about an hour from Frederick, MD. There are plenty of affordable hotel accommodations in the area, for those who would prefer to stay overnight.
When:
Saturday, May 15 and Sunday, May 16, 2010, Noon to 7pm
Why:
While glamor photography workshops abound, there are few group opportunities to work with figure models, and even fewer which take a serious approach to learning. Our event will focus on developing both skills and relationships which will last a lifetime. Emphasizing a fine art approach to nude photography, I hope to encourage both exceptional image making and also networking to build our community of artists and models in the region.
How Much:
$399 includes all fees and releases from each model. Don’t miss the opportunity to work in this amazing location with some of the finest models in North America!
Please feel free to email with any questions. I look forward to seeing you there!
